  MacNut™ Oil Attributes
 
 
  • Can be used for stir-fry because of its very high smoke point 410º F. (Depending on quality and age, olive oil breaks down at less than 325°).
 
  • Because of its high smoke point and monounsaturated level, Macadamia oil is least likely to develop the unhealthful lipid peroxides and other breakdown products when heated.
 
  • Macadamia nut oil is the richest culinary oil in prized mono-unsaturated fatty acids. Its level is up to 84%, (olive oil is 73%, Canola 58%). Monounsaturated fats have been researched extensively for their positive effect on heart health and prevention of many degenerative conditions.
 
  • Because of its high smoke point and monounsaturated level, Macadamia oil is least likely to develop the unhealthful trans fatty acids and lipid peroxides when heated.
 
  • Although the amounts of essential fatty acids are low (as expected in a stable cooking oil) the ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 is in the ideal range of approximately 1:1. Omega 6 fats tend to be inflammatory, so it is quite an advantage that MacNut™ Oil is the lowest cooking oil in Omega 6.
 
  • MacNut™ Oil is very high in natural anti-oxidants. The natural alpha tocopherol (vitamin E) level is approx. 450 ppm (olive oil is approx. 100 ppm). 
 
  • MacNut™ Oil has a very long shelf life due to the high natural levels of mono-unsaturated fats (that limit the points where oxygen can attack) and antioxidants (that restrict oxidation).
 
  • Suitable for a raw foods diet because it has not been heated.
 
  • Has the same caloric value as any other oil.
 
  • Contains no cholesterol (nor does other oil derived from plant matter)
 
  • Has a very light texture that allows it to be easily absorbed into the skin. Macadamia Nut Oil is the richest plant source of Palmitoleic Acid, which is the oil closest to skin oil. So, use it as a moisturizer or massage oil and be amazed.

  Processing MacNut™ Oil
  • All natural.
 
  • The only oil manufactured in the plant, so there is no risk of cross contamination with other oils (e.g. no peanut that might cause allergies).
 
  • Is mechanically expeller pressed in chilled equipment (using NO solvents or chemicals) to ensure the highest quality and flavor.
 
  • A winterization process is used to clarify the oil as opposed to chemical based methods (more costly to produce, but more healthful).
 
  • The manufacturing process is environmentally-friendly with the byproducts used as follows:
 
The residual kernel / shell mixture is hammer milled and used as stock-feed.
 
The residual wax from the winterization stage is used in stock feed.

  Growing the Nuts
  • The trees are typically sprayed just once per season, although it is the option of the farm
 
  • The nut is protected by a husk and an inner shell
 
  • Both the nut and oil are tested for pesticide residues, and no measurable levels have ever been found. See NRS below.

    Survey program (NRS)
  • Government sponsored program with the primary function of monitoring chemical residues and environmental contaminants.
 
  • Samples of the oil are collected from approximately ten processing plants in New South Wales and Queensland and tested by NRS.
 
  • MacNut™ Oil is in 100% compliance with Australian standards for Multi-Screen residue tests for organochlorines, organophosphates, synthetic prethroids, carbamates, rodenticides, fungicides and herbicides.
 
  • Two herbicides (glyphosate and paraquat), which were not included in the multi-screen residue tests, were not detected.
  • All samples were screened for metals including cadmium, mercury, lead and the essential micronutrients copper and selenium. These elements occur naturally and concentrations at reportable levels are not unusual in biological samples, but none were found.
